One of our most popular obstacles, the Spider Wall is a fun yet challenging obstacle which requires strength, focus, and coordination.
In this guide to the Spider Wall, we highlight what the obstacle is, why it’s so challenging, and some top tips for completing it when you come to visit us at Ultimate Ninja UK.
What is the Spider Wall obstacle?
The Spider Wall obstacle, named due to how participants look like spiders when trying to complete it, is simply two vertical walls set parallel to each other. The aim of the obstacle is to use your hands and feet to grip to the walls on each side and move along until you reach the end.
Why is the Spider Wall challenging?
The Spider Wall is challenging as it is a full body exercise and requires strength in addition to coordination and stamina. It can be difficult to focus on what each hand and foot is doing while trying to travel along the wall, but one wrong move could see you failing the challenge. Those who are good at climbing and parkour will have an advantage when tackling the Spider Wall as this obstacle requires similar skills.
Tips for completing the Spider Wall
To give yourself the best chance of completing the Spider Wall when you visit us at Ultimate Ninja UK, consider these top tips:
- Try to climb as high as possible at the beginning of the obstacle to give yourself space to drop down as you move forward and start to fatigue.
- Push against both walls as much as possible as this will give you the stability you need to shimmy along.
- Ensure you always keep a hand or foot on each wall to maintain contact and stop yourself from losing grip.
- As with all our Ultimate Ninja UK obstacles, practise makes perfect, so give yourself the opportunity to try the Spider Wall a few times to get used to how it feels. Once you’re comfortable with the technique there will be no stopping you!
What to wear for the Spider Wall
When you visit us, what you wear can help you to stay safe, avoid injury, and complete the obstacles more efficiently. The right footwear is vital, and you should wear trainers which will help you to grip to the Spider Wall and support your feet. No other shoes are permitted, so please don’t arrive with only sliders, flip flops, heels, or astro shoes to wear.
To enable you to move freely and efficiently along the Spider Wall, wear clothes that are comfortable but not too loose fitting. Baggy clothing can get in the way when completing a number of our obstacles, so opt for more fitted styles, like leggings, shorts, and slim fitting tracksuit bottoms.
